Downloading Empathy was a breeze. Using Github was no different from using the command line with Subversion.
Building Empathy from that downloaded source has proven to be most infuriating. The source depends on libraries that aren't released yet, so in order to develop the code, one must first find the as yet unreleased libraries. The up-side to finding these libraries is they're part of the alpha release of Ubuntu 11.04. The downside is, to get them, you have to use an alpha release of an operating system.s
It's possible to get Empathy from the Ubuntu Software Center and run it from there; however, this won't help us see our changes once we start adjusting the code. Unless one of my teammates has found success in the build/install process, we may have to change our project.
